Meet Heather Porter, Senior Content Strategist and UX Writer

Ask Heather Porter what she’s reading during a video call and you can expect to see several book covers flash across the screen. With an MFA in Creative Writing and a background in book publishing, she’s spent over 10 years developing the focus and craft required to develop compelling content out of piles of input and mounds of research.

“My goal with every project is to create clarity.”

—Heather Porter

Heather joined the Wordland team as a writer in 2017, but she quickly evolved into the role of strategist with her ability to guide editorial processes, seamlessly mesh with client teams, and clarify complex ideas.

Academic rigor meets digital content

Generally unafraid of the bumps and bruises that come with exploring new terrain, Heather was a quick study in digital content writing alongside Wordland’s founder, Margot.

Her skills have been put to use on a number of projects since then, including a critical microsite that educated users about the advanced capabilities of a premium product. This initiative also included the creation of several corresponding email campaigns.

The project, which culminated in a comprehensive resource center, required not only exhaustive organization, but finesse with language and people. From the initial kickoff to the finished site, Heather collaborated closely with a team of designers, marketers, and product managers.

Over the course of this project and others, Heather makes an impact with her ability to:

  • Keep team members focused on the benefits of product features

  • Act as an advocate for the customer

  • Manage stakeholder expectations

  • Help clients think and write from multiple perspectives

  • Ground conversations in the rationale behind content decisions

Heather exemplifies Wordland’s ethos of valuing others’ input. Her curiosity helps each project become a collaborative process based on research and a deep understanding of products and systems.

She also excels at developing rapport and authority with our clients—often leading more than one project at a time. As part of a team that encourages content thinking at the foundational level, Heather’s proven herself an asset on even the most challenging projects.
